- When greeting women at a first meeting you should use a gentle handshake, but a kiss on each cheek it is not unusual unless if woman offers her cheek.
- People stand closer to each other during conversation and maintain more eye contact.
- A grip of the arm or a hand on the shoulder is not uncommon between business associates.

- In Portugal men have a lot of trouble taking orders from a woman and facing a female superior.
- Many Portuguese men feel that they are superior to women. They still think that a womens place is in the home, raising children, doing the cooking and cleaning, etc.
- Many of them have a hard time accepting that women might aspire to having a career and obtain high-level positions
- Women should be cautious about where they go after dark, especially in certain areas of Lisbon and Porto.
- In Formal situations handshake should be used. Kissing in both cheeks can be used in formal situations if you know very well the other person.
